Scholarships
There are a range of scholarship programs being operated by Government agencies and partner organisations. Each program has specific eligibility criteria and students should contact the manager of the scholarship program for more details.
Clubs NSW - North Coast TAFE Scholarship
This scholarship provide assistance for TAFE students studying at either Coffs Harbour Campus or CHEC who are experiencing financial hardship. Assistance for successful applicants will comprise of a $500 payment towards the cost of trade kits, books, stationery and information technology expenses ($250 on enrolment, $250 on successful completion of semester).
Eligibility Criteria
People of any age can apply for a student scholarship. Applicants must be:
• receiving Centrelink benefits or facing financial hardship
• able to show a plan of how the scholarship will be utilised
• enrolled to study at either CHEC or Coffs Harbour of TAFE

The Mick Young Scholarship for financially disadvantaged students
The Mick Young Scholarship provides financial support for two nominated TAFE students undertaking certain TAFE courses who can prove both financial disadvantage and the motivation and commitment to furthering their education and improving life circumstances. Contact your Campus Manager for further information about the nomination process, which closes in February each year. This is only available for students studying at Kempsey or Macksville campuses.

TAFE NSW/University of Newcastle Pathways Scholarship
This Scholarship provides financial support for an eligible TAFE student carrying out study in a tertiary education program that follows a pathway through TAFE and the University of Newcastle. Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme
The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme is funded by Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
The Scheme was established in recognition of Dr Arnold ('Puggy') Hunter's significant contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and in his previous role as Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).
The aim of the Scheme is to help address the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in health professions and assist in increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with professional health qualifications.
The scholarship provides financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are undertaking study or are intending to undertake study in a health related discipline at an undergraduate or TAFE (Certificate IV and above)level in the areas of:
Aboriginal health worker ; Alcohol and other drugs workers ; Allied health (excluding pharmacy) ; Dentistry/oral health ; Health service management ; Health promotion ; Medicine ; Mental health; Midwifery ; Nursing.
Value of funding
Full time study load = up to $15,000 per year for the usual term of the course
Part time study load = up to $7,500 per year for the usual term of the course
Criteria
Applicants must identify as and be able to prove their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status.
To prove your status as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, you must obtain a written Confirmation of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Descent document from an Indigenous Australian organisation within the community in which you live or have previously lived.
The Confirmation of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Descent document must include the signatures of two office holders.
A Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent from an incorporated body related to an academic institution will not be accepted.
Scholarship selection
Scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee and will be based on the following criteria:
• community involvement and leadership
• commitment to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health
• commitment to improving Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health in the future.

Abstudy course related supplies and fees support

Student who complete an Abstudy Form M, attach the appropriate documentation and have it signed by their course Head Teacher, can look to apply for financial assistance to cover course related supplies and course fees up to the value of $2080.

NSW Aboriginal Land Council Scholarships

Aboriginal students and their families can lodge applications for financial assistance under the NSW Aboriginal Land Council’s (NSWALC) educational scholarships.
Students of all ages are eligible to apply for assistance from the Education Endowment Fund.
The scholarships will provide financial assistance to help cover the cost of uniforms, text books, educational excursions (except sport excursions), tutorial assistance, laptops and software, internet access and fees for Boarding school, TAFE, primary and high school.

Twin Towns - North Coast TAFE Scholarship
Twin Towns – North Coast TAFE Scholarships provide assistance for Tweed region TAFE students experiencing financial hardship and are offered in Term 1, Semester 1 and Term 3 Semester 2 of each year.
Assistance for successful applicants will comprise of a $500 payment towards the cost of trade kits, books, stationery and information technology expenses ($250 on enrolment, $250 on successful completion of semester).
Recipients of the scholarships are chosen by a panel of representatives from North Coast TAFE.
Eligibility Criteria
People of any age can apply for a student scholarship.
Applicants must be:
• receiving Centrelink benefits or facing financial hardship
• able to show a plan of how the scholarship will be utilised
• enrolled to study at a TAFE North Coast Tweed Campus (Kingscliff or Murwillumbah)

Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarships

Established to assist one Indigenous student in every State and Territory to undertake Education studies at university.
These prestigious scholarships will see $25,000 per year awarded to successful recipients for the life of their teaching degree (up to four years). This will enable scholarship recipients to concentrate solely on their education studies whilst at university and fully develop their teaching skills and knowledge.
In addition, all scholarship recipients will be provided with the support of a highly accomplished teacher or teacher educator as a mentor throughout the duration of their studies.
These scholarships are a prestigious award that form part of the Government’s continued commitment to closing the gap in education outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
