Proberts with teacher Luke Close and the new bus.

Anthony James Proberts is very proud of a new bus sporting a design created by himself and fellow TAFE art students that's now driving around the North Coast.

He says not since John Moriarty did Aboriginal motifs on a Qantas Boeing 747 in 1994 has there been an artwork of this scale gracing a public transport vehicle. It's a big call, but whatever the case, the bus sure is an impressive sight.

The new bus is decorated with key elements of the Bundjalung creation story, the central image being the spiritual totem of the Bundjalung nation, a goanna wrestling with a snake.

The bus will travel between Lismore, Coraki and Evans Head, not just looking beautiful but hopefully encouraging more Indigenous people to use public transport.

Goori students studying Certificate IV in Visual Arts at Lismore TAFE made the design and had it approved by the Bundjalung Elders Council. Transport NSW then made several large stickers in order to cover the entire coach.
