Committment to ecological sustainability

Making sustainability a priority is not just about being up with the latest fad - North Coast TAFE has a proud history of managing our ecological footprint, and working with others to do the same.

North Coast TAFE's Charter makes explicit the organisations committment through two strategic outcomes: "We collaborate and educate for ecological sustainability" and "We practise ecological sustainability". North Coast TAFE's business planning processes are aligned to the outcomes in the Charter, making ecological sustainability a priority organisation wide.

In 2006, North Coast TAFE's Ecological Sustainability Policy was enacted, providing guidelines for the consideration of sustainability in the work practices of everyone within the organisations work and learning environment.

The Ecological Sustainability Plan, developed through a review of North Coast TAFE's earlier Environment Plan, '2002 and beyond' has focussed organisational support for sustainable practice into 4 key areas: policy, curriculum, communication and promotion, and rewards and Incentives. Effective strategies in these 4 areas has been vital in building a framework that supports individuals and teams work towards more sustainable work practices and educate for sustainability.

Building a workforce that is capable to meet the challenges of sustainability is critical.  All organisations need people that are aware of and committed to issues of sustainability. Training organisations, like TAFE also need people that can engage other businesses, communities and individuals in learning for sustainability.  Educating for and Practising Ecological Sustainability is an identified priority area for North Coast TAFE staff to develop skills and capability.
