On Thursday Murwillumbah TAFE hosted a Wellness Luncheon for all students and staff that provided information, demonstrations and access to wellness opportunities available on the campus and in the local community.
Students were treated to free massages, basic health checkups, as well as information from several local health organisations including; New Horizons, Tweed Community Health, Clinic 145 sexual health, Youth Connections and The Tweed Family Centre.
The luncheon, which was put on by the campus counselling and career services and the student association was an opportunity for students to relax and get ready for the pressure of final exams.
“TAFE Counsellors are able to help students in many different ways; with career planning, study skills, course articulation and credit transfer, personal issues such as managing stress and financial matters. Hosting these types of campus wide events on a regular basis gives our students access to services they may otherwise not be aware of,” said Chelle Wallace, Murwillumbah Campus Counsellor.
The event also include a free healthy BBQ for all participants, a live musical performance by Simone, a recent finalist in the TAFE NSW campus band competition as well as give-aways and prizes.
Murwillumbah TAFE student Paris Robinson and her classmates from community services all enjoyed the luncheon. “It was great, a chance to get out of class and take a break. The food was good and Simone was fantastic and not to mention the massage, we should do this every day”, Paris said.
The event also raised over $150 for CanTeen, an organisation that provides programs, services and resources to help young cancer sufferer’s deal with the emotional, physical and practical issues of living with cancer, so they can take back control of their lives
