The Semester 1 2012 Hair Extravaganza held at Kingscliff TAFE’s Caldera restaurant was another hair raising experience and a huge success with over 80 students, staff, employers, industry representatives, families and friends attending.
This year the Hair Extravaganza changed to a new and exciting format, the Creative Mannequin Gallery. Certificate II, III and IV hairdressing students spent many hours preparing mannequins that were then displayed in the Caldera restaurant in a gallery format.
Students were competing to win fabulous prizes donated by event sponsor Joico. Prizes were awarded to apprentices Shayla Pounds, Mel Harper and Ellie Lesley, Certificate IV student Jodi Engel, and the People’s Choice award went to Ashlee Stannard.
Hairdressing student Brooke Doyle was thrilled with the opportunity to showcase her skills to family and friends. Brooke who is in the second year of her apprenticeship with Simply Sheer at Mullumbimby said, “Working on mannequins in competitions like this is a fantastic way of going over the top and doing something most people wouldn’t let you do in real life.”
Kingscliff TAFE hair dressing teacher Chris Edmeades said, “This event and other like it throughout the year are an opportunity for our students to demonstrate their extraordinary skills to friends, family, colleagues and industry representatives.”
“A big thank you must also go out to our Tourism and Hospitality section who, as per usual, did a fantastic job in creating a wonderful atmosphere and preparing and serving delicious food and drinks,” Chris said.
