About the courseThis qualification is for people who want to explore community work in both the government and non-government sectors, as a potential career. You will learn about the community services sector and explore specific contexts of work and develop fundamental skills in communication, information provision and processing, administration support, networking and group support. People seeking to enrol in the unit of competency HLTFA301B, Apply first aid are advised that to successfully complete the unit they must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. People who have a disability that would prevent them from performing required basic life support skills are advised that they will not be able to achieve the unit of competency. Back to IndexCareer opportunitiesThis course provides an introduction to community services work and can lead to further study in health and aged care and/or community services. Back to IndexArticulationWhen you finish this course you will have achieved nationally recognised units of competency and will gain advanced standing into CHC08 Certificate III level qualifications, such as those in aged care, children's services, disability and home and community care. Back to IndexEntry requirementsThere are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Back to IndexRecognitionTAFE NSW recognises skills gained through previous studies, the workplace and life experience which may allow you to complete your qualification faster. You may be entitled to recognition that will exempt you from one or more modules, up to 100% of the requirements for a course award. There is no fee for processing applications for current TAFE NSW students. Commercial (fee based) recognition is also available to organisations and individuals. If you are granted RPL the target unit is reported on your transcript of academic record as by advanced standing but you will not get a grade or mark for that unit. You must enrol in all units and apply for an exemption by completing a form. Attendance at class is necessary until the relevant exemption is granted. Note: Some short, licensing or compliance courses, for example the Statement of Attainment in Food Safety for Supervisors, are not granted RPL by North Coast TAFE as demonstrated competency is required by regulatory authorities. For further information please contact the Customer Service Centre on 1300 NCTAFE (1300 628233) or visit our website. Back to IndexTAFE 2 uni pathwaysA TAFE NSW Certificate IV or Diploma could give you up 6 to 12 months advanced standing in a university degree and some Advanced Diplomas offer even more credit. Choosing a TAFE to University Pathway at North Coast TAFE is a great way to get practical ‘job ready’ skills and then gain entry to a university at an advanced stage. More information can be found on our TAFE 2 uni page on our website. Back to Index
