About Natfish
Natfish (National Fishing Industry Education Centre) is part of North Coast TAFE, located at Trenayr Campus, 10 km north of Grafton on the North Coast of NSW. Natfish specialises in flexibly delivery techniques to allow participation in training by people from a wide range of geographic areas and backgrounds.
Many students are working full-time whilst they study at Natfish, some are already in the seafood or aquaculture industry, others are looking to enter the industry either through gaining employment or investing in their own enterprise. The flexibility and availability of our training ensures that students have the opportunity to be up-to-date with the latest techniques.
Over the years our scope has widened to include delivery of courses in Seafood Processing and Sales and Distribution, Recreational Fishing Industry Services, Marine Studies and various related short courses. The same flexible approach to delivery is used. The courses are nationally recognised certificates from Australian National Training Packages.
Our courses are taught by highly qualified teachers with extensive experience in aquaculture and related seafood industries. All teachers have considerable industry experience and can work with an enterprise or industry groups to customise training programs and select appropriate units. We can provide help with training needs analysis and provide consultancy support and training in the area of aquaculture, seafood safety and the marine environment.
Natfish has been recognised for excellence in delivery through several State and National training awards, most recently by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence as one of Australia’s premier providers and awarded three gold stars under the Institute’s Star Rating Scheme.
The Centre contains facilities including wet and dry laboratories, workshop, training rooms, conference/seminar rooms and equipment, reference materials, catering facilities and access to a wide range of other training facilities in TAFE NSW and other TAFE delivery centres in Australia. Directly opposite the Centre is the NSW DPI Grafton Aquaculture Centre, which has a large freshwater fish hatchery and 19 aquaculture ponds.
