Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms, including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Farming involves some intervention in the fattening/rearing process, so aquaculture does not include the wild catch of aquatic organisms.
Natfish delivers Certificate II, Certificate III, Certificate IV and Diploma courses in aquaculture, as well as short courses such as Hatchery Techniques, Recirculation Technology and Seafood Safety.
The Certificate and Diploma courses are delivered flexibly, which means they involve a combination of distance study and practical workshops. You start in the Certificate II level course, which covers the basic, practical skills and knowledge required for working in the aquaculture industry, and then progress through the certificate levels up to Diploma level if desired. The courses can be studied full time or part time. You can choose the number of subjects you wish to enrol in each year and may change your enrolment during the year if you need to. Click on Studying With Us on the left menu to find out more about studying flexibly with us. For detailed course information including workshop dates and costs, click on course boxes below.
Short Courses
Natfish has a variety of short courses on offer. Some short courses such as Hatchery Techniques and the Basic Seafood Handling & HACCP courses are selected units from the certifiate courses, whilst the Recirculation Technology course is a stand alone course. Click on the courses on the right for more information on each course.
We can also customised training programs and study tours for your business, provide help on training needs analysis, consultancy support and training in the area of aquaculture and seafood. Contact us if you want to discuss customising a program for your business. |
