North Coast TAFE > Natfish > Course Areas: > - Seafood Handling

Fisheries are Australia's 5th most valuable rural industry. The post harvest sector relies on a large workforce to process, wholesale and retail seafood products. Natfish delivers training in seafood processing, sales and distribution by flexible delivery. The certificate courses are registered for trainees and are aimed at people already working in the seafood industry. Courses are a mixture of work based training, distance education and where appropriate some classroom sessions eg first aid.

As the study is work based the courses focuses on recognising and formalising skills already learnt in the workplace and providing targeted training in the areas where it is needed. An individualised training plan is developed for each student. Assessment is a mixture of work-based assessment such as observations in the workplace, supervisor reports, assignments and may have some campus based assessment (such as first aid test & practical). Availability depends on your location and workplace as courses are targeted to individuals or workplace needs.
