LawLink

LawLink is the NSW Attorney General's Dept website and has useful information on a range of issues such as going to court, legal problems, rights etc.

Chamber magistratesare often available in local courts to give information about legal processes and court procedures, including explanations of the legal options available.

Court locations are in the White Pages under Attorney General's Department or can be found on the LawLink website.

Legal aid

The Legal Aid Commission of NSW provides legal aid and other legal services to disadvantaged people. Their Legal Aid HelpLine is an information and advice service open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday on

The HelpLine covers legal aid policies and services, how to apply for legal aid, how to get help with a legal problem and also referrals to other services and answering of simple legal questions.

The legal aid hotLine for under 18's

Is a toll free telephone service for children and young people. Experienced criminal lawyers with expertise in juvenile justice provide legal advice to young people who have committed or are suspected of committing an offence.

The service operates on 1800 101 810 from 9am to midnight Monday to Friday and 12 noon to midnight on weekends.

The Lawstuff Australia website provides information about legal rights for people under 18 years of age.

LawAccess NSW
LawAccess NSW is a free government telephone service that provides legal information, advice and referrals for people who have a legal problem in NSW. On their site you will find easy to read legal information and factsheets and publications. Phone: 1300 888 529 between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), (TTY) on 300 889 529 or (TIS) on 131 450 .

The Domestic Violence Advocacy Service can give legal advice in matters concerning domestic violence.

Victims of crime bureau

The Victims of Crime Bureau can provide counselling and/or monetary compensation for the victims of violent crime. Their 24hr counselling service can be contacted on

Community justice

The Community Justice Centres provide an expeditious, impartial, and accessible informal dispute resolution service and may be an alternative to formal legal action.
