Types of recognition

The TAFE NSW Recognition Policy identifies four main types of recognition services offered by TAFE NSW. These recognition services are:

Pre-arranged RPL

Pre-arranged RPL refers to previously negotiated arrangements between TAFE NSW and other training providers and institutions such as Board of Studies, Universities and Adult and Community Education (ACE) colleges. Pre-arranged RPL is automatically granted to students who satisfy the agreed pre-arranged requirements. Your TAFE NSW Transcript of Academic Record will indicate that the module has been achieved by advanced standing.

National recognition

National Recognition refers to the requirement of an RTO to recognise and accept whole or partial AQF qualifications conferred by another RTO and to recognise an individual's whole or partial qualification. TAFE NSW does not issue an identical testamur or transcript for qualifications awarded by other RTO's. This means that if a person requests recognition for a qualification achieved elsewhere, TAFE NSW will recognise this and place them in a course at the same or higher level. However, TAFE NSW does not issue 're-badged' qualifications. Your TAFE NSW Transcript of Academic Record will indicate that the module has been achieved by advanced standing.

TAFE NSW credit transfer

If you have successfully completed exactly the same unit of competency/module, or a module similar in content and outcome to a module in your current course, your result may be transferred. If not, your TAFE NSW Transcript of Academic Record will indicate that the module has been achieved by advanced standing. There may be, however, some units of competency/modules where it is not possible to transfer your result for the exemption.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the acknowledgement of your current skills and knowledge acquired through previous education, training, work and/or life experience. This includes skills and knowledge gained through community or volunteer work and previous learning, work and/or life experience gained overseas. If successful your TAFE NSW Transcript of Academic Record will indicate that the module has been achieved by advanced standing.
